The local Hampshire Primary Care Trust holds the budget for local medical services. They will ask (or commission) local groups who provide medical services to put forward a plan to provide a specific service.
Practice based commissioning (PBC) is about involving GP practices and other health and primary care professionals in the commissioning of services. The government feels that practice based commissioning will lead to high quality services for patients in local and convenient settings.
Hampshire Health is a partnership of local GPs (which is called North Hant's Alliance) with Assura Medical. Your doctor, by being a part of Hampshire Health, has a business interest in some of the services.
Your doctor may refer you for a service through Hampshire Health. This is a new organisation created to provide health care services in our area. It is particularly focused on providing services in the community which may have previously been carried out at the hospital. The providers will be a selection of qualified clinicians including Consultants, GPwSis (General Practitioners with Special Interests) and GPs, as well as other professionals allied to medicine and other specialists.
It provides the opportunity for local clinicians working together, with a shared vision of how healthcare can be delivered more effectively and efficiently, to add value for patients. This will bring services closer to them and with efficient business planning, help to maximise the finances available to Hampshire PCT.
